Dev Log 2 - Prototype Vertical Platform
Hi,
My name is Justin and for my prototype I made a vertical platformer, however, the player can't run or walk, the player has to rely on Jumping and Dashing.
Feedback
During the external playtest I kept the record of people that cleared the game, 3 people out of 6 people has cleared game this is partially due to time constraint or that they had a difficult time to clear the prototype.
Observational View
From early observation players who cleared the game tend to read the controller guide at the start of the game or they experiment with controls testing such as jumping and dashing, determining how they can travel from point A to B and if the player kept failing over once they try a different method of progressing.
the other half of that failed tend to start the game without looking at the controller guide which prompt me to include them in the game instead of having a page of the controls. The players often fail at certain points of the start and middle section of the level but when they do reach the same area rather trying a different method they would repeat and the other reason the fail to clear the level is due to time constraint of the playtest.
Player Feedback.
Overall, the players that playtested the game were satisfied with the prototype, I received a lot of feedback from each players they mostly tend to be same or similar such as they wanted to control the dashing of the player, some people wanted the player to freeze their position as they dash mid air and lastly, some of the corner of the each platform tend to clip the player, however, they can still use the dash system to avoid the being clipped to the corner.
The playtest was a success overall, I achieved the objective I came to do "Can we make an endless runner without forced movement?” 3/6 of players manage to clear the game, they gave great feedback and it helped me to try push new ideas for the next prototype.
Next Week
For next week we have to design another prototype and the prompt is "Corrupted Vision".
Goals for next
My experience goals
- Players will satisfication clearing a frustrating game.
- Player will find new ways to play the game using new control movement
Design Goals
Game Mechanics
- Using the same control system but slightly tweaked where the player has to play the game in a different way
- Adding simple enemies to the game.
Hardware
- The player's control input is sideways such as Jump, Dashing and Running.
I hoped that you will continue follow the progression of the project.
